Glycols are normally used for industrial HVAC, Process cooling/heating, and antifreeze. There are two main types of glycols, ethylene glycol and propylene glycol with propylene glycol available in industrial and food grades. Ethylene glycol is commonly used in applications where efficiency is important and there is no human or animal contact due to the toxicity of the ethylene glycol chemistry. Propylene glycol, food or technical grade, is used in applications where human or incidental food contact is a concern. To help you choose the correct glycol product please refer to the chart below.

As you can see in the chart above the main feature of food grade propylene glycol is the ability to be used where there is a high potential for incidental food contact. Examples would be: Breweries, Wineries, and food processing plants.
